Ishak Pasha was a local general whose family had long administered the region during the days of the Ottoman Empire. His background remains up for debate to this day, though many believe he was a Kurd. In any case, he and his family became incredibly wealthy thanks to the lucrative silk trade that passed through Doğubeyazıt.
